Pathways Out and About
Joint Roundtable on Women's Empowerment
On the day before the AWID Forum started in Cape Town in November 2008, Pathways and the Women's Empowerment in Muslim Contexts RPC (WEMC) held a joint roundtable at the Cullinan Hotel, Cape Town to present their work. The title of the event was 'Negotiating Alliances, Overcoming Opposition: Women’s Movements and other Social Movements'. Amongst those who spoke was Kausar Khan from the WEMC who talked about 'Women’s health rights as part of the democratization movement in Pakistan' - see her presentation on the Pathways channel on youtube:
Feminist Tech Exchange
In November 2008, the Pathways Communications Team took part in the Feminist Tech Exchange (FTX) which was hosted in Cape Town alongside the AWID Forum. FTX aims to provide feminists and women's rights movements with a greater understanding of emerging information technologies to help them in communicating to a wider audience. The communications team found it a very useful experience both in gaining a greater understanding of what can be achieved through the new information technology but also as a team building event. They followed up their team participation in the exchange with a communications media training held after the Mid-Term Review Conference in Cairo in January 2009.

Sexuality and Development Industry Workshop
In April 2008 Pathways co-organised a workshop at IDS on Sexuality and the Development Industry with the IDS Sexuality and Development Programme. More than 70 participants took part from a range of activist groups, NGOs, universities, government bodies and donor organisations worldwide. How do development interventions impact on people's sexualities? And how can development agencies move towards more constructive engagement with sexuality? were two of the topics under discussion.
